Méribel in Interseason: What’s Open & What to Do in Autumn 2026

Summer is drawing to a close, winter is still a little way off, and Méribel is entering one of its quietest  and perhaps most underrated  times of the year.

September, October and November are known locally as interseason: the period between the busy summer and winter seasons when the resort slows down, the lifts close and many seasonal businesses take a well-earned break.

But Méribel certainly doesn’t disappear.

For locals, property owners, people working in the valley or visitors looking for a quieter mountain escape, autumn offers a completely different side of the resort. The trails are peaceful, the forests start changing colour, the crowds disappear and there is still plenty to do — you just need to know what remains open.

And when it comes to finding somewhere to eat, there is one thing you don’t need to worry about: La Terrasse du Village remains open every day throughout interseason.

What is interseason in Méribel?

Méribel essentially has two major tourist seasons: winter, centred around skiing and snowboarding, and summer, when hiking, mountain biking and outdoor activities take over.

Autumn interseason generally covers September, October and November, before the ski resort comes back to life for winter.

It’s certainly quieter. You won’t find the full choice of restaurants, bars, shops and activities available during peak season, and the mountain lifts are no longer running.

But that’s also part of its charm.

Méribel Village, Méribel Centre and the surrounding valley suddenly become much calmer, giving you the chance to experience the mountains without lift queues, busy roads or crowded terraces.

Is Méribel worth visiting in autumn?

Absolutely  as long as you’re not coming expecting the atmosphere of February!

Autumn in Méribel is about slowing things down.

The mountains change dramatically as the season progresses, with cooler mornings, autumn colours and often beautifully clear days. It’s a particularly good period for walking, exploring the valley or simply enjoying the mountains without the crowds.

Popular areas such as Lac de Tuéda, the Col de la Loze and the trails surrounding Méribel can all take on a completely different character once summer has finished.

For locals, it’s one of those rare periods when you feel like you have the mountains almost entirely to yourself.

Walking and hiking in Méribel during interseason

You don’t need the lifts to enjoy Méribel on foot.

There are numerous walks starting directly from the different villages, ranging from gentle valley walks to more substantial hikes higher into the mountains.

Autumn can be particularly beautiful for walking as the forests change colour and the trails become much quieter.

Conditions can, however, change quickly at altitude. As autumn progresses, colder temperatures and early snowfall are possible, so always check the weather and conditions before heading higher into the mountains.

Can you mountain bike in Méribel during autumn?

Yes  although without the lift-assisted bike park experience you’ll find during summer.

Once the lifts have closed, riders need to earn their descents themselves or use an electric mountain bike.

For anyone who enjoys pedalling rather than simply jumping on a chairlift, this can actually be a fantastic time to explore Méribel’s trails. Cooler temperatures and quieter tracks make autumn riding particularly appealing.

What is open in Méribel during interseason?

This is the question everyone asks.

And the answer changes considerably throughout September, October and November.

Some shops and services remain open year-round, while others close for several weeks before reopening ahead of winter. Restaurants and bars operate on different schedules too, so it’s always worth checking individual opening hours before making plans.

The Méribel Tourist Office also maintains information about businesses and services currently open in the resort.

One thing you can rely on, however, is finding us in Méribel Village.

A restaurant open throughout interseason in Méribel

At La Terrasse du Village, being open all year isn’t just a slogan.

We’re open 365 days a year, including throughout September, October and November.

While the rest of Méribel changes around us with the seasons, our doors stay open.

That means you can still pop in for lunch after a walk, meet friends for a drink, settle in for dinner or simply enjoy a relaxed afternoon in Méribel Village.

Our large covered and heated terrace also means autumn weather doesn’t necessarily have to send you indoors.

Sunny September afternoon? Grab a table outside.

Cool October evening? We’ll turn the heaters on.

November starting to feel suspiciously like winter? Even better.

Eating in Méribel during interseason

Finding somewhere to eat can become one of the trickier parts of visiting a ski resort outside the main seasons.

During winter and summer, Méribel offers an enormous choice. During interseason, that choice naturally becomes smaller.

At La Terrasse, our kitchen continues to serve generous, homemade food with local produce, seasonal dishes and international influences, with vegetarian and vegan choices available too.

It’s somewhere you can come for a relaxed lunch, dinner with friends or family, or simply a drink on the terrace without having to wonder whether the restaurant has shut for the season.

And because we’re in Méribel Village, we’re easily accessible whether you’re staying in the village itself, Méribel Centre or elsewhere in the valley.

What about November in Méribel?

November is when everything begins changing again.

Temperatures fall, snow starts appearing on the mountains and preparations for winter become increasingly visible around the resort.

Restaurants begin reopening, seasonal teams start arriving and Méribel gradually wakes up ready for another ski season.

It’s a strange but exciting few weeks: part sleepy autumn village, part ski resort preparing for what comes next.

And at La Terrasse, we’re here throughout the whole thing.

No reopening date required.

Visiting Méribel between seasons?

If you’re coming to Méribel this September, October or November, don’t assume everything is closed.

Come for the quieter mountains, autumn walks, peaceful roads and a completely different perspective on one of the Alps’ best-known ski resorts.

Just remember that interseason operates at its own pace. Check activities and businesses before travelling, keep an eye on mountain conditions and embrace the fact that things are a little quieter than usual.

And when you start wondering where to eat in Méribel during interseason, you’ll find us in the same place as always.
