August is one of the best times to experience Méribel. The mountains are green, the walking and cycling trails are fully open, the terraces are lively and the resort calendar is packed with sport, live performances and family-friendly events.
From trail running and road cycling to astronomy, circus shows and the traditional 15 August celebrations, here are some of the biggest events happening in Méribel throughout August 2026.
Astronomy Festival: 4–6 August
August begins with three days dedicated to the skies above Méribel.
Taking place from 4 to 6 August, the Méribel Astronomy Festival offers a selection of activities designed to introduce visitors of all ages to astronomy. Expect opportunities to learn about the sun, stars and planets while making the most of Méribel’s clear mountain skies. The activities are free, with much of the programme based around Place Maurice Front in Méribel Centre.
It is a brilliant choice for families, as well as anyone looking for something a little different after a day spent walking or exploring the mountains.
Méribel Trail Weekend: 8–9 August
The second weekend of August belongs to the runners.
The Méribel Trail takes place on Sunday 9 August, with four distances designed for everyone from young runners and first-time participants to experienced trail athletes:
- 42 km
- 25 km
- 10 km
- 2 km
The first race begins at 7am, with the shorter distances setting off throughout the morning from Méribel-Mottaret. The courses offer a chance to experience some of the valley’s most beautiful high-altitude scenery while taking on a serious mountain challenge.
Local shops in Mottaret will also host an outdoor retail event across the weekend, with sports equipment, clothing and accessories available on 8 and 9 August.
Not running? The weekend should still offer a great atmosphere, with plenty of places along the route to support the participants.
Méribel Circus Festival: 10–12 August
From 10 to 12 August, Méribel becomes one enormous open-air stage for its annual Circus Festival.
The free programme includes acrobatics, juggling, clowning, magic, music and circus workshops for children and families. Performances take place across Méribel and Méribel-Mottaret, with indoor alternatives planned in case of heavy rain.
Highlights include the Kadavresky troupe’s energetic combination of ski acrobatics, balancing, live music and comedy on 10 August, followed by the acrobatic and musical show FilObal on 12 August.
The festival is suitable for a wide range of ages and is one of the month’s easiest events to enjoy as a family. You can catch a performance during the afternoon or early evening before heading back to Méribel Village for dinner.
The 15 August Braderie
The traditional 15 August braderie returns to Méribel Centre with a day of shopping, entertainment and celebrations.
Businesses from across the valley will offer discounted ski equipment and other bargains, while music, a procession and a festive meal add to the atmosphere. Entry is free and the event runs throughout Saturday 15 August.
Even in the middle of summer, it is a great opportunity to start preparing for winter—or simply enjoy one of the liveliest days in the resort calendar.
Méribel Cyclo Challenge: 15–16 August
The 15 August weekend will also see the return of the Méribel Cyclo Challenge, organised by the Méribel Sports Club.
On Saturday, riders will tackle a 17 km climb from Brides-les-Bains to Méribel Altiport, covering approximately 1,135 metres of elevation.
Sunday’s time trial takes on the Col de la Loze, with a demanding 15 km course climbing approximately 1,235 metres from Les Allues to the summit.
It is a serious challenge for the cyclists taking part, but also a fantastic spectacle for supporters. Some local roads may be busier or temporarily affected, so it is worth checking the latest access information before travelling.
Enduro 2: 22–24 August
Mountain biking takes centre stage later in the month with Enduro 2, an international race for teams of two.
Taking place from 22 to 24 August, the event welcomes hundreds of mountain bikers and electric mountain bike riders to the trails of Méribel Bike Park, finishing around the Chaudanne plateau.
The event itself is already sold out to participants, but spectators can still enjoy the action and atmosphere around the resort.
The Olympe gondola is expected to operate specially for the event, although riders will have priority and the area may be particularly busy. Visitors planning their own mountain bike day may find the Saulire side of the valley a quieter alternative during the race.
Summer lifts, walking and mountain biking
You do not need a major event to fill your days in Méribel.
The summer lifts remain open every day until 29 August 2026, operating from approximately 9.30am to 4.30pm. They provide access to a huge network of walking routes, mountain bike trails and panoramic viewpoints throughout Méribel and the wider Three Valleys.
Other activities available throughout the month include:
- Walking and guided nature outings
- Mountain biking and electric mountain biking
- Golf at the Méribel Altiport
- Climbing and high-rope courses
- Swimming, bowling and indoor activities
- Weekly sports tournaments
- Nature film screenings
- Heritage visits in Les Allues
The programme includes free football, pétanque, Mölkky, badminton and beach volleyball sessions on selected days, making it easy to add an activity without planning an entire excursion.
Thursday live music in Méribel Village
Back in Méribel Village, our weekly Moules Frites and live music evenings continue every Thursday at La Terrasse du Village.
Starting from 7pm, these relaxed evenings combine a generous serving of moules frites with live music on the terrace. They are always popular, particularly during the busy August weeks, so booking ahead is strongly recommended.
Our traditional Fish & Chips Friday also continues throughout the summer, served every Friday at lunchtime.
